Cougars continue to have Eutectics' number in Monday matinee

ST. LOUIS, MO – Historically, the Eutectics have not had much success against Columbia. Nothing changed Monday afternoon when the Cougars routed the visitors, 96-54. It was the ninth straight win for Columbia over UHSP. Columbia put four players in double-figures and shot an incredible 60.3% from the floor for the game. Collin Parker earlier in the day was named the American Midwest Conference's offensive Player of the Week this past week and went for 23 points and six rebounds to lead the home club in the win.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Landon Engelage had a solid game for the Eutectics finishing with a team-high 19 points on 6-of-9 shooting and also added six boards and a pair of assists.
  • It was the first time this season that Engelage has been the leading scorer in a game for UHSP.
  • Former Cougars turned Eutectic Brock Davis finished with five points, but tied for a game-high seven rebounds.
  • Harrison Vickers had 16 points for Columbia while Seth Larson had 13 points and four assists and Nate Brandt finished with 11 points and seven rebounds.
  • Despite outrebounding UHSP 38-26, Columbia only had seven more shot attempts than the Eutectics. UHSP was 20-of-56 from the floor (35.7%).
  • The Eutectics were perfect at the foul line in only six tries. CC was 10-of-17 (58.8%).
  • The Cougars had just six turnovers to 15 for UHSP.
  • Columbia's entire bench combined to go 12-of-16 from the floor (75%).
  • After falling behind 7-0 to start the game, Engelage connected from perimeter with 11:51 left in the first half to give the Eutectics their first lead of the game, 17-16.
  • Christian Harwood who finished with eight points, made a basket with 9:04 left in the first half to cut the Cougars lead to 23-21. Columbia would go on a 21-3 over the ensuing 7:08 to take a commanding 44-24 lead.
  • Justin Patton appeared in the first game of the season for the Eutectics and played three minutes. He missed his only field goal attempt from three-point territory.
  • UHSP played again without the services of Jas Suvalija and Ahian Barnett who are sidelined with injuries.
  • Columbia led 47-32 at the half.
  • Columbia improves to 19-2 against the Eutectics since 1999.

The Eutectics (6-12, 0-9 AMC) have two more home conference games to finish out the week. Crowley's Ridge (11-7, 5-3 AMC) will be in town on Thursday and then the conference front-runners in Central Baptist visit the UHSP Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon.
