
Eutectics Finish 2024 with Loss to Red Wolves in Indiana
RICHMOND, IND. – The Eutectic men's basketball team suffered an 87-70 loss on Friday evening to the Indiana University-East Red Wolves in Richmond, Ind. After pulling ahead 42-31 in the first half, the Red Wolves maintained the momentum, despite a marked improvement in Eutectic shooting (41% to 49%) through the second period. The IUE Red Wolves now hold a record of 6-6, while the Eutectics drop to 5-9 after their final countable game of 2024.
Highlights:
- The teams matched closely on rebounds (UHSP 35, IUE 38) and turnovers (UHSP 14, IUE 12).
- The Red Wolves drained 13-of-23 three-point field goals (56.5%), while the Eutectics struggled from beyond the arc, making 7-of-24 (29.2%).
- Ahian Barnett was the leading scorer for the Eutectics with 14 points, converting on 6-of-12 attempts and adding four assists and three steals.
- Dwight Newsome and Brock Davis also reached double figures in scoring with 11 and 10 points, respectively, each also nabbing five rebounds for the Eutectics.
- IUE's Jake Johnson led all scorers with 22 points, going 7-for-10 from the floor, 5-for-7 from the arc, and 3-for-3 from the line.
The Eutectics will remain in Indiana on Saturday to play an exhibition game at Indiana State University in Terre Haute at 12 p.m. CST. Following that, the Euts will break for the holidays and return to the UHSP campus for a Jan. 4 matchup on their home court with Central Christian College of the Bible (2-9) at 3 p.m.
