Eutectics find the road rough in Paragould against Crowley's Ridge

PARAGOULD, AR – The American Midwest Conference opener for the unbeaten University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy was a rough one. It was one of those games where virtually nothing went right as Crowley's Ridge earned a 79-43 win over the Eutectics in the Pioneers first-ever game in AMC play after joining the league last off-season.

The Pioneers opened the game by scoring the first eight points and held UHSP to just 13 points in the entire first half. It was 14-2 when Moctar Keita made a layup with 11:45 remaining in the half, but Crowley's Ridge went on a 13-5 run over the ensuing 9:51 to take a commanding 27-9 advantage. The half ended with CRC on top 33-13 as the Eutectics made just four field goals over the first 20 minutes.

The 20-point halftime lead ballooned to 30 when the Pioneers Zak Brown made a layup 5:45 into the second half to make it a 50-20 contest. Landon Engelage followed with a three, but it was academic at that point. Jas Suvalija connected from deep with 8:11 left to make it 64-34, but Crowley's Ridge embarked on a 9-1 run to take a 73-35 lead en route to the lopsided win.

While Brock Davis led UHSP with nine points and five boards, Crowley's Ridge put three players in double figures. Zak Brown paced the Pioneers with 17 points while Jerrodney Tubbs and Timquorian Johnson each had a dozen. CRC shot 45.9% going 28-for-61 while it was a dismal shooting day for the Eutectics going 10-of-50 for just 20%. Both teams struggled from distance with the Purple and Gold going just 3-of-28 (10.7%) with the Pioneers 5-of-22 (22.7%). Crowley's Ridge won the rebound battle 43-32 while neither team turned it over much, UHSP had 14, CRC just eight.

The Eutectics (4-1, 0-1 AMC) go again in Arkansas on Saturday afternoon as they try to bounce back against one of the top early-season teams in the AMC when they play at 3:00pm against Central Baptist.
