Esports Weekly Update: March 24-30

Super Smash Bros (SSBU):

On Monday, Mar. 25, the 10th-seeded Eutectics went up against the 7th-seed Saint Francis University in Round 1 of the ECAC spring playoffs. Each team put in the hard work to reach the playoffs, finishing the regular season with a record of 5-2, and seemed evenly matched.  Unfortunately, the Eutectics had a very uphill battle due to sickness. The lineup had to be changed last minute (within an hour of the match start time) to August Camarato (captain), Carlos Tyse, and Michelle Le. Camarato was also unwell but continued to play so that his players could have a fighting chance and not have to forfeit the match.  The match was very difficult with SFU making very few mistakes. The Eutectics fought hard, but fell 0-2 to SFU.

The team has had a fantastic season with bright future seasons ahead. Out of 32 teams in the ECAC rival division, the Eutectics finished 8th overall. Each player improved over the course of the season and gave it their all, pushing themselves and each other in every match. The team is still training hard and looking forward to playing next season and the recruits that will be coming in next semester.

League of Legends (LoL):

On Thursday, Mar. 28, the Eutectics went up against Winthrop University in Round 1 of the CLOL spring playoffs. Stakes were high coming into the match, as the winner would advance to play in the finals. The Eutectic lineup was Alex Sarate, Alex Noel, Cole Cwiklowski, Danniel Franco (co-captain), and James Bamberger (co-captain). The match was once again a very close one with each team giving it their all. Unfortunately, the Eutectics fell 0-2 and will not advance to the finals. Winthrop University showed why they were one of the top-5 teams in the country for this division by capitalizing on any mistakes made. The Eutectics fought hard but just made too many mistakes.

The UHSP team is not out of the fight just yet, however. They will compete again on Saturday, April 6, against University of Michigan. A victory will place the Eutectics third in the CLOL spring semester playoff. In the NECC playoffs, the Eutectics will play on April 3, against UC Santa Cruz in the semi-finals with a chance to advance to the finals.

Last week's MVP was Alex Noel.  He was a great offensive threat that kept the game as close as it was for the Eutectics.

All matches are streamed live on Twitch at twitch.tv/eutectics. The replays are archived and available for viewing for 14 days. The Eutectics stream SSBU on Monday, OW2 on Thursdays, and LoL on Wednesday and Saturday.
