Eutectic Cheer Opens Season in the Big Easy

NEW ORLEANS, LA. – The Eutectic cheer team opened the 2025 season with a trip to New Orleans, La., to compete at the Battle in the Big Easy competitive cheer and dance competition hosted by Xavier University of Louisiana (XULA) on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 28-Mar. 1. UHSP finished eighth of eight teams competing at the event, but was able to improve its score with each of the four competitions over the two days, scoring more than 10 points higher between the first performance and the fourth.

The competition began on Friday evening with duals, pitching UHSP against Simpson College (Calif.) at 6:40 and 6:50 p.m., then UHSP versus the host school of XULA at 8:30 and 8:40 p.m. The UHSP team fell to Simpson 67.05 to 42.63 in the first round, then improved its score to 45.60 as XULA scored 92.30 in the second round.

On Saturday morning, the Eutectic teams took to the floor for competition at 11 a.m., this time competing against six other schools, including Simpson, Langston, Tennessee Southern, Texas A&M-Texarkana, Our Lady of the Lake, and XULA. XULA, who ended up winning the entire event with a record of 8-0, scored a 90.72 to top the list of scores, while the Eutectics made significant improvement from Friday with a score of 50.80.

Just over an hour later, the Eutectics were scheduled to compete in a triangular with Texas A&M-Texarkana and XULA, but XULA withdrew to ultimately make it another dual. In this fourth competition of the weekend, both teams earned their highest scores, with Texas A&M-Texarkana recording a score of 69.47 and the UHSP team scoring a season-high 53.93 – 11.3 points higher than its first competition.

With their first competition under their belt, the Eutectics will continue working to improve and be ready for their next competition at the American Midwest Conference Championships this Friday and Saturday, Mar. 7 and 8, hosted by Columbia College in Columbia, Mo.
