Eutectics bang out a dozen hits to power past Sabercats

ALTON, IL – Maranatha Baptist made a stop on Monday to visit the Eutectics at Lloyd Hopkins Field. The Sabercats were beginning a spring break trip that would see them visit three other teams after they faced UHSP. The Eutectics used early offense as they scored four in the second and three in the third as they knocked off MBU, 11-2.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS:

UHSP 11, MARANATHA BAPTIST 2

  • Jacob Grim doubled in a run in the first to open the scoring as he plated Nolan Harding who had reached on an error. Grim finished with three runs batted in and had his second two-hit game in the last three contests.
  • Harding and Grim were at it again in the second as the former had an RBI double to left center and the latter followed with a two-run single to center to put UHSP on top 5-0.
  • Cameron Curcuro singled to right field to put MBU on the board in the top of the third. Samuel Hangen hit a one-out solo homerun in the fourth as the Sabercats made it 8-2.
  • In the Eutectic third, Barrett Bressette drove home a run on an infield dribbler to third. A throwing error allowed another run to score. Brandon Gibbs drove in another run in the third with an infield groundout.
  • Ruben Ogando rocked an RBI double in the fifth and Matthew McDonald added another run with a sacrifice fly in the sixth. McDonald did record a base hit in the game as he has now hit safely in the last four games.
  • Spencer Francescutto capped the scoring in the eighth with a pinch-hit RBI single to score Grim who had walked.
  • Brandon Gibbs went 0-for-5 and had his six-game hitting streak snapped
  • UHSP used seven pitchers in the game as Jordan Gonzalez got the start and went the first two frames. He pitched shutout, no hit baseball while fanning three.
  • Colin Malally (1-0) was the fourth pitcher used and picked up the win going one inning. He blanked the Sabercats without allowing a hit and recorded one strikeout.
  • Joe Anderson suffered the loss for Maranatha Baptist. He went 1.2IP and yielded five runs, four earned on five hits. He walked one and struck out four.

NEXT UP:

The Eutectics (13-19, 9-12 AMC) are back on the road this weekend when they travel to Columbia on Friday to begin a four-game AMC series against the Cougars (22-5, 16-4). Columbia is receiving votes in the latest national poll and after a doubleheader sweep of William Woods on Sunday are now riding a 5-game win streak.
