
Eutectics Split Weekend Series with Pioneers
PARAGOULD, AR- The Eutectics used a 7-run third to power their way to an 11-6 win over Crowley's Ridge to open up a Saturday doubleheader. Jacob Grim drove in three and Deklan Riggs drilled a homerun to lead the offense as Tristan Calmes went the distance on the mound to get the win.
GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS:
UHSP 11, CROWLEY'S RIDGE 6
- In the third, a couple of hit-by-pitches and a Grim single loaded the bases. Holden Campbell drove in a run reaching on an error and Grim cleared the bases with a double to center. Caden Buxton and Malcolm Merriwether. CRC committed three errors in the seven-run UHSP third.
- In the home-half of the third, the Eutectics committed four errors. Trey Drake and Clay Burgess had RBIs in the inning while Adonis Thomas had two.
- In the fourth, Campbell singled to lead off the frame. He would score three batters later when Matthew McDonald sent a ball through the left side for an RBI single to make it 8-4.
- The teams traded two runs in the sixth. UHSP got a McDonald RBI single followed by Ethan Harrell stealing home.
- In the home half of the sixth, Parker Gordon and Connor Boan had RBI singles.
- Riggs capped the scoring with his first homerun of the season in the seventh.
- Jacob Grim and Holden Campbell were both 2-for-5.
- Matthew McDonald went 3-for-4 and drove in two.
- Clay Burgess had the lone multi-hit game for the Pioneers going 2-for-4 with an RBI.
- Tristan Calmes (2-3) threw a complete game for the Eutectics. He gave up six runs, three earned, on eight hits while walking one and fanning ten.
- Jack Roney (1-5) took the loss for CRC. He struck out five over six frames but yielded ten runs on ten hits. Only half of the runs he allowed were earned.
GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS:
UHSP 8, CROWLEY'S RIDGE 7
- UHSP struck first in game two; Brandon Gibbs reached base on an error and put himself into scoring position with a stolen base. Holden Campbell took care of business with an RBI single up the middle to take the one-nothing lead.
- Crowley's Ridge answered back in their half of the inning with a homerun to tie it up. Then added a single, a couple of walks, and a wild pitch to take the 2-1 lead.
- The Pioneers extended their lead in the second, when the Euts' defense faltered. A single and a couple of errors allowed two more CRC runners to cross the plate and take a 5-1 lead.
- The Eutectics did not rollover, however, and battled back in the third. A single from Nolan Harding and a two-run homer from Jordan Gonzalez started the rally. A Holden Campbell walk, an Ethan Harrell single, and a Matthew McDonald RBI made it a one-run game.
- Eutectics' pitching loaded the bases with 2 walks and a hit batter in the fourth. They were able to get a double play to lessen the blow, but the Pioneers tallied another run to extend their lead to two.
- Jacob Grim reached base on an error in the fifth, and the Eutectics made it hurt; he eventually scored on a sac fly off the bat of Matthew McDonald. CRC countered back again with another run in their half of the inning.
- The Eutectics came alive in the sixth. After a leadoff walk by Jordan Gonzalez, their bats got going. Brandon Gibbs singled, and Holden Campbell tripled to tie the game. Campbell scored on a wild pitch to take the one-run lead, which was enough to hold on for the win.
- Holden Campbell led the Euts with two hits and three RBIs. Jordan Gonzalez also went 2-for-3 and drove in two runs.
- Jacob Grim got the win for UHSP.
NEXT UP:
The Eutectics (12-19, 8-12 AMC) return home as they welcome Maranatha Baptist to Alton, Ill. for a 7:00 pm start. It will be a single 9-inning game against the Sabercats. After that, UHSP travels to Columbia on Friday to open their four-game AMC set against the Cougars.
