ALTON, ILL. – After splitting Friday's doubleheader, the Eutectic baseball team and the Mission University Patriots (Mo.)(16-6, 11-5 AMC) returned to the UHSP home field at Lloyd Hopkins Field for Day 2 of the American Midwest Conference (AMC) series on Saturday. The Mission came out on top in both games with scores of 16-1 and 11-0.
GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS:
Mission – 16
UHSP - 1
- The Patriot bats were hot, knocking down 14 hits in the game and committing three errors, as the Eutectics recorded three hits and one error.
- Mission started off the scoring with two runs off two hits in the second inning against starting UHSP pitcher Tristan Calmes. They turned in one run in each of the fourth and fifth innings, then drilled four hits, including two doubles, in the sixth to take an 8-0 lead before Calmes came off the mound.
- The Eutectics finally marked the board in the bottom of the sixth off a Patriot error, scoring Jacob Grim, who was hit by a pitch.
- The Patriots returned in the top of the seventh with firepower, scoring eight runs off seven hits to take a 16-1 lead that was insurmountable for the Eutectics.
- Holden Campbell, Ethan Harrell, and Jordan Gonzalez got the hits for UHSP off starting MU pitcher Trey Mullholland, who went all seven frames for the win. Mullholland recorded five strikeouts, one walk, and zero earned runs.
- Calmes was charged with the loss after 5.2 innings, striking out seven, walking three, and giving up five hits and seven earned runs.
GAME 2 HIGHTLIGHTS:
Mission – 11
UHSP – 0
- Stellar Patriot pitching and fielding held the Eutectics to just two hits in the game as starter Jude Tenny struck out eight, walked two, and gave up the two hits before reliever Justin Locke came in for the final frame.
- The Visitors were just a strong in the batter's box, led by Game 1-winning pitcher Mullholland's five RBIs off two home runs and a double. He would go 3-for-3 in the game. The Mission team would rack up 14 total hits in the game.
- The Eutectics' two hits came from Brandon Gibbs and Deklan Riggs, who each went 1-for-3.
- Jackson Wininger was charged with the UHSP loss, striking out one, walking three, and giving up six earned runs off eight hits.
