ALTON, IL – Barrett Lohman was masterful and set a new school record for strikeouts in game one and the Eutectics used the long-ball in game two to earn a doubleheader sweep over Harris-Stowe. Lohman struck out 15 batters in the 7-inning affair as the Eutectics won 14-0 and then took the nightcap by a score of 9-6 as Brandon Gibbs and Jacob Grim each hit homers as part of a five-run fourth inning.
GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS:
- Tristan Calmes owned the previous school record with 12 strikeouts against Rust on Feb. 17, 2024.
- UHSP had 14 runs on 11 hits.
- The Eutectics scored four in the second sending eight to the plate and five more in the third sending ten batters to the plate.
- HSSU pitchers combined to walk eight and hit two batters
- Brandon Gibbs was 3-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and two stolen bases.
- Ethan Harrell was productive out of the 9-spot reaching base all four times. He was 2-for-4 with a triple, two fielder's choices and three runs scored.
GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS:
- Kyle Smith got the start on the hill for UHSP and went four innings. We was cruising until a four-run fifth for Harris-Stowe chased him. He allowed six runs on seven hits, walked four and fanned five.
- Avion Wallace likewise went four innings for the Hornets. He yielded seven runs on four hits, walked three, hit three and stuck out five.
- Gavin Long came on for the final three innings for UHSP. After some early trouble, get sat down the final seven batters he faced to pick up the win. He struck out and walked two.
- Walker Mann had a two-run homerun to fuel the four-run fifth for HSSU.
- Caden Buxton and Ruben Ogando provided huge insurance runs with RBI singles in the fifth and sixth respectively.
- The Eutectic defense committed just two errors on the day as a whole.
- UHSP is now 4-1 all-time against Harris-Stowe.
UP NEXT:
The Eutectics (5-8, 2-4 AMC) will play another doubleheader on Sunday against the Hornets (2-7, 0-4 AMC) beginning at 2:00p. Then UHSP will visit McKendree on Monday at 1:00p before resuming AMC play at Missouri Baptist on Friday.
