Eutectics ready for home opener after taking 3 of 4 in Texas

TYLER, TX – The Eutectics picked up their first wins of the 2025 season on Saturday against Texas College and will head home after taking three of four from the Steers. UHSP split the Sunday doubleheader against TC with a 5-1 win in game one and then falling game two 6-5.

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Holden Campbell opened the scoring in the first. He had a one-out double then scored on a Matthew McDonald fielders choice.
  • UHSP scored a pair of unearned runs in the fourth to take a 3-0 lead as Caden Buxton walked and scored and Jacob Grimm reached on an error and scored.
  • Malcolm Merriwether singled and scored in the fifth and McDonald reached on an error and scored. Grim provided an RBI single and Deklan Riggs had an RBI groundout.
  • Tristan Calmes got the start and struck out ten over his five innings as he picked up the win for UHSP. He gave up just one run on a single hit. Nolan Harding tossed the final two innings allowing two hits.

GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Holden Campbell opened the game with a single and five batters later scored when Ruben Ogando was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Deklan Riggs flew out to left to end the threat as UHSP left the bases loaded. 
  • The Steers put together a four-run bottom of the first thanks to three singles, a double, a walk and two UHSP errors.
  • The Eutectics scored two in the top of the fifth. Matthew McDonald had a one-out single and then Ruben Ogando drilled a two-run homerun.
  • Nolan Harding had a two run triple in the sixth to score Ethan Harrell and Campbell to tie the score at 5-5.
  • Texas College scored the go-ahead and game-winning run in the bottom of the sixth after a leadoff single and then an error allowing the winning run to score. 

UP NEXT:

The Eutectics (3-4) for their home opener next weekend against Judson. The Eagles will be making their 2025 debut when they travel from Elgin, IL to St. Louis and are coming off a 9-41 campaign last year.
