The offense is certainly bigger in Texas

TYLER, TX – After a winless opening three games last weekend to the college baseball season for the Eutectics where their offense struggled, there was no problem scoring runs for UHSP this weekend as they swept a Saturday doubleheader at Texas College winning 18-2 and then .

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS:

  • The Eutectics scored 18 runs on 16 hits while holding the Steers to just three hits.
  • In a 2-2 game after two innings, the Eutectics exploded for an 11-run third inning to end all doubt. They sent 16 men to the plate in that frame and registered seven hits, five walks and a hit batter.
  • Leading 13-2 after three, the Eutectics added four more in the fourth inning to lead 17-2.
  • Everyone in the UHSP lineup that registered an at bat collected at least one hit.
  • Matthew McDonald and Holden Campbell had three-hit days while Campbell and Caden Buxton each drove in three. McDonald and Buxton each had a pair of singles, a homerun. Campbell also had a double. McDonald's homer was a three-run blast and he had six RBI's in the game.
  • Barrett Lohman got the start and picked up the win going four innings. He gave up a pair of runs on four hits and piled up seven strikeouts.
  • Ethan Harrell tossed a scoreless fifth while Logan Stribling went the final two innings allowing two runs on four hits.
  • UHSP hitters drew 10 walks in the game while the Eutectics pitchers combined to fan nine Texas hitters.
  • Christopher Germanos, Selvin Anderson and Bobby Peterson had the lone hits for the Steers.

GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Nolan Harding had a two-run single as part of a four-run first to open things up for UHSP in which they sent ten batters to the plate.
  • Michael Morales led off the sixth inning with a solo homerun to put UHSP on top 8-2.
  • Caden Buxton and Jacob Grim had back-to-back run scoring doubles in the seventh to cap a 28-run offensive day for the Eutectics. Grim went 2-for-3 with a single, double and a walk.
  • Michael McDonald was 2-for-4 with a pair of singles and two stolen bases.
  • Deklan Riggs went five strong innings to pick up the win for the Eutectics.
  • Kyle Smith pitched the final two innings for UHSP to close out the win. He and Riggs combined to fan seven Steer hitters.

UP NEXT:

The Eutectics (2-3) will play another twinbill against the Steers on Sunday before returning to St. Louis for their home opener next weekend against Judson. The Eagles will be making their 2025 debut when they travel from Elgin, IL to St. Louis and are coming off a 9-41 campaign last year.
