Historic First! Ethan Harrell named AMC Player of the Week

ST. LOUIS, MO - In the first week of the college baseball season, Eutectic catcher Ethan Harrell was named the American Midwest Conference Player of the Week as announced by the conference on Monday afternoon. He is the first baseball player in UHSP history to ever receive recognition as Player of the Week by the AMC.

Harrell started behind the plate in the weekend finale for UHSP as they finished up a season-opening three-game weekend series at Oklahoma Wesleyan. In his first collegiate at bat, Harrell singled in the top of the third, eventually stole second base and scored on a Nolan Harding RBI single as part of a six-run frame for the Purple and Gold. Two innings later, Harrell grounded out to shortstop, the only time in four at bats over the weekend that he was retired.

In the sixth inning, the Franklin, TN native came up with two on and two out and blasted a 2-0 pitch to dead centerfield for his first homerun of the season, but not the only one he would hit on the day. The following inning with two out in the top of the seventh, Harrell sent one over the wall in right centerfield to cap a memorable opening day for him. He went 3-for-4 on the day with a single, two homeruns and five runs batted in.

Harrell becomes just the second Eutectics to ever hit two homeruns in a single game. His current teammate Malcolm Merriwether did it last year against Philander Smith on Mar. 20, 2024. His five RBI's tie for the second most recorded in a single game in UHSP history. Merriwether, Michael Morales and Dustin Aleck all drove in five in a game last year while Caden Buxton holds the UHSP record with six driven in against Hannibal-LaGrange on April 12 last season. Harrell's nine total bases set a new UHSP single game record and eclipse Merriwether's previous record of eight from his two-homer game.

The Eutectics are back on the road this weekend for a pair of doubleheaders as they face Texas College in a four-game series.
