Eutectics drop season opener in Oklahoma

BARTLESVILLE, OK – The Eutectics opened their 2025 season on the final day of January as they headed south to begin the campaign at Oklahoma Wesleyan. The Eagles got on the board early with two in the first thanks to a couple of walks and a two-run triple from Javier Marcial and the Eagles went on to beat UHSP, 6-1.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Barrett Lohman got the start on opening day and went three innings. He allowed three runs, all earned on three hits, walked three including those two in the first inning and fanned one. He surrendered a homerun and a first-inning, two-run triple.
  • Evan Foor started for the Eagles and faced 15 batters over four innings of scoreless baseball. He allowed four hits, struck out three and walked one. Foor last year was OKWU's ace going 9-3 with a 3.91 ERA.
  • Connor Hickey hit a solo homerun to lead off the home-half of the third, his first of the season. He was 2-for-19 last year with just one homer resulting in his lone RBI of the season. Hickey was 2-for-4 in this game with six total bases and an RBI.
  • Morgan and Hickey hit back-to-back RBI doubles in the fourth to extend the lead to 5-0. Morgan was 2-for-3 with three runs scored and two RBI's.
  • UHSP got an RBI double from Holden Campbell in the fifth scoring Caden Buxton who reached on an error. He went 2-for-4 in the game. Campbell hit .375 last year with a pair of doubles and nine driven in.
  • With two on in the OKWU half of the sixth, Chase Pinheiro reached on an infield single to second. The throw from second went to the Logan Stribling who was covering first to try and retire the batter but was overthrown. Ravaughn Morgan who led off the inning by being hit by a pitch, went from second to third. With the UHSP catcher trying to retrieve the overthrown ball, Morgan rounded third and scored as the plate had been vacated.
  • Jackson Wininger tossed two innings in relief allowing two runs in the fourth, one in the fifth and was charged for the run in the sixth.
  • Matthew McDonald drilled a two-out RBI triple over the head of the rightfield in the eighth inning to score Malcolm Merriwether who walked to make the score 7-2.
  • UHSP pitching combined to walk seven Eagle hitters. Oklahoma Wesleyan pitchers walked five.
  • Jordan Gonzalez and Ruben Ogando had singles for the Eutectics.
  • Stribling and Gavin Long combined to toss three shutout innings in relief.
  • OKWU opened the season sweeping a three-game series against Ecclesia College.

UP NEXT:

The Eutectics (0-1) continue a three-game weekend series against the Eagles (4-0) with a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 12:00pm. After the series concludes against Oklahoma Wesleyan, UHSP plays a four-game set at Texas College next weekend.
