Owls Complete Sweep with Two Wins over Euts

In a doubleheader clash in Fulton, Mo., the baseball teams from UHSP and William Woods University (WWU) (18-15-1, 6-3) engaged in a tough battle. The Owls emerged victorious in both encounters, winning 10-9 and 14-6, respectively, to secure a comprehensive sweep after their Friday night success.

The opening game witnessed an intense back-and-forth between the Euts and the Owls. The Euts surged ahead early in the second inning as Ruben Ogando's leadoff double set the stage for a productive inning. Subsequent hits from Jabez King and Caden Buxton, combined with an Owl error, propelled the Euts to a 3-0 lead. They extended their advantage in the third inning, capitalizing on Jovonnie Bautista's single and Jordan Gonzalez's timely sacrifice bunt to make it 4-0.

However, the Owls fought back fiercely, narrowing the deficit to 4-2 in the third inning before staging a remarkable comeback in the fifth inning, taking an 8-7 lead. Despite a surge from the Euts, highlighted by a Malcolm Merriweather homerun in the 4th and Gonzalez's clutch hitting in the sixth inning, the Owls secured a narrow 10-9 victory in a thrilling contest.

In the second game, the Owls quickly seized control with an early lead courtesy of a first-inning home run. The Euts responded impressively, establishing a 4-1 lead in the second inning fueled by timely hitting from Caden Buxton, Barrett Bressette, and Nolan Harding. However, the Owls swiftly turned the tide with a relentless offensive onslaught, scoring five runs in the second inning to reclaim the lead.

Despite the Euts' best efforts to stay competitive, the Owls' offensive firepower proved overwhelming, particularly in a decisive fifth inning where they pulled further ahead. Despite Harding and Bautista's contributions for the Euts, with two hits apiece, the Owls emerged victorious with a commanding 14-6 win.

The doubleheader losses leave the Euts with a 7-18 season record, with a 1-8 standing in conference play. They are back in action against Principia College (6-15, 0-6) on Tuesday at 5 pm in Elsah, Ill.
