Rust-Busters! Eutectics win again to go to 2-0
Following a season opening win over the Rust Bearcats on Friday, the Eutectics were more impressive in their second game of the year with an 8-1 triumph over the Bearcats on Saturday afternoon.
Tristan Calmes got the start for UHSP going four innings allowing six hits, walking one and fanning seven. The Eutectics got to Rust starter Matthew Davis in the third scoring runs followed by four more in the fourth. That would chase Davis from the game, but the Purple and Gold had already generated plenty of offense. Davis went those four innings yielding six runs, three earned on five hits, striking out three. After Rust scored their lone run in the fifth, the Eutecitcs added two in the seventh to finish off the win. Nolan Harding went 3-4 with a double scoring two runs and driving in three. Malcom Merriwether and Ruben Ogando each went 2-4 with a run scored.
Calmes got the win with Brayden Steves allowing a run on two hits over two innings of relief. Steves walked one and struck out a pair. The Eutectics stole five bases with Michael Morales swiping three himeself.
The two teams will finish out a three-game weekend series on Sunday.
