Brandon Gibbs, Baseball

Brandon Gibbs, Baseball

Brandon Gibbs is the second-leading hitter on the Eutectics this season, hitting .330. He has done a tremendous job in the leadoff spot for UHSP getting on base 44% of the time. Maybe more importantly, Gibbs has solidified a key defensive spot on the Eutectics infield playing shortstop all season. Infield defense was a focal point this offseason for UHSP Head Coach Rick Heines and sliding Gibbs over to short has aided to help improve a defense that had a fielding percentage last season of .914. This year, the UHSP fielding percentage is .952.

At the plate, Gibbs has been consistent in the top spot all year. An 0-for-5 outing against Maranatha Baptist on March 24 snapped a 6-game hitting streak for Gibbs. Through 31 games, there were only seven in which Gibbs did not record a hit. He has had seven multi-hit games this season, thrice recording three hits in a game. Gibbs has six doubles, three homeruns and 16 runs batted in on the season thus far. He has scored 25 runs and leads the club in stolen bases with 17 for UHSP. He will more than likely set a new single season record for stolen bases as he is well on track to surpass Robert Uhlmeyer's 20 stolen bases from a year ago.
