Eutectics can't match Williams Baptist's offensive prowess

WALNUT RIDGE, AR – Williams Baptist had two players score north of 20 and shot nearly 60% as a team as the Eagles delivered the first conference loss to the Eutectics in a 97-72 final on Saturday. Alina Bowden led UHSP in scoring with 21 points, but 23 total turnovers by the Eutectics and the hot shooting by the Eagles gave WBU their fifth consecutive win over UHSP and in the process snapped a four-game win streak by the Euts.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS:

WILLIAMS BAPTIST 97, UHSP 72

  • WBU had a four-point lead at 16-12 with 2:31 to go in the first quarter when they started to pull away, leading to a 26-16 lead at the end of one. The Eagles shot 67% from the field in the first missing just five of their 15 shots. UHSP made seven field goals and shot 41%.
  • After an 8-4 run by WBU to start the second, the rest of the quarter hovered between a 13-to-19 point lead for the Eagles. While the Eutectics shot 73% in the period, ten turnovers resulted in Williams Baptist taking seven more shots, making two. It was a 51-37 Eagle lead at the half.
  • Williams Baptist exploded in the third for 34 points on 15-of-20 shooting as they made all three of their three-point shots. UHSP was just 6-for-22 and got outrebounded 14-6 in the quarter. WBU had runs of 10-0 and 8-0 in the period and led 85-54 after three.
  • Reece Halley scored seven of UHSP's 16 points in the fourth and finished as the leading bench scorer with 12. She added nine rebounds, two assists and two steals.
  • Cha'Myrean Ellis led all scorers with 25 points and Chelsea Hamilton added 24 for WBU as they combined to go 20-for-33 from the floor. Ellis had a double-double with 10 rebounds and added six assists.
  • Halley and Bowden both had a team-high nine rebounds for the Eutectics who got outrebounded 40-35 overall.
  • UHSP's only leads in the game were at 3-0 and 3-1.
  • Williams Baptist now leads the all-time series 19-5.

The Eutectics (7-8, 4-1 AMC) return home for their next contest on Thursday when they host another AMC foe in Hannibal-LaGrange (3-10, 0-4 AMC) at 5:30p. They wrap up next week with a Saturday road trip to Stephens at 1:00p.
