Grace Beyer claims NAIA Player of the Week award

Another tremendous week for the country's leading scorer this time gives her the recognition as the NAIA Player of the Week. UHSP's Grace Beyer was named the top player in the nation for the week of January 8-14 on Tuesday. She played three games over that span including one in which she dumped in her third-highest single-game point total in her career when she scored 51 points at William Woods last Thursday. Beyer opened the week by scoring 20 points with eight rebounds and six assists helping the Eutectics to just their fourth ever win over Missouri Baptist. Then came the 51-point performance on just 29 field goal attempts against the Owls. Beyer wrapped the week by scoring 27 points in a road loss to Columbia as the Eutectics were unable to sweep the three games last week. Beyer averaged 32.7 points-per-game on the week going 35-for-71 from the field (49.3%), 3-of-8 from beyond the three-point line and 25-for-31 from the foul line (80.6%). The UHSP guard totaled 21 rebounds, 11 assists and six steals over the three game span. She was also named the American Midwest Conference's Player of the Week for those numbers this past week, the seventh time this season she has been named the top player in the AMC for a given week.

This is the first time this season that Beyer has landed NAIA Player of the Week honors, but it is the seventh time in her career getting that nod after securing that recognition four times last year. She continues to lead the nation in scoring by a wide margin with a six-point cushion on her nearest chaser. Beyer is averaging 33.7 points per game while Haley Cox of Ohio Christian is second in the country at 27.5 points per game. Beyer is also 32nd in the land in free throw percentage at 87.5% for the season after she led the country last year shooting 93.9% from the stripe.

The Eutectics sit at 8-7 overall and 3-2 in the American Midwest Conference with two conference home games this week, Central Baptist on Thursday and Williams Baptist on Saturday.
