ST. LOUIS, MO – Jack Wetzel put on a three-point clinic scoring a career-high 28 points in leading five Owls in double-figures as William Woods blitzed UHSP 101-43 for their seventh straight win over the Eutectics.
Offense was difficult to come by all night for the Eutectics as they fell behind 22-10 after a Brock Davis jumper with 10:38 remaining in the half. The Owls went on a 15-0 run to take a 37-10 advantage as UHSP went 8:22 without a field goal. Yigit Ekinci drilled a three-pointer with 2:15 left but things were out of hand as WWU led 47-15. The Owls went on top 54-17 at the half as they made better than half their shots through the opening 20-minutes. William Woods shot 56.3% on 18-of-32 shooting as UHSP was 6-for-26 (23.1%). The Owls pounded out 26 rebounds in the first half to just ten for the home club.
Things did not get any better in the second half as Wetzel went on a three-point parade. He finished 7-of-13 from beyond the arc leading the Owls on a night they hit 16-of-36 of their three-point shots (44.4%). The Eutectics struggled from deep going 5-for-25 (20%). The half featured another 5:09 stretch where the Eutectics scored only two points on a single Jas Suvalija field goal as the Owls turned a 60-24 lead into a 74-26 advantage. William Woods cruised the American Midwest Conference win from there.
Suvalija was the Eutectics lone double-digit scorer with ten points and three rebounds. Davis had five rebounds in the defeat. Henry Shannon added 14 points, eight rebounds and three steals for the Owls, Francis Okwuosah added 12 points and 11 boards, Ty'Shon Pannell had 11 points off the bench and D'Mari Wiltz had ten points, seven boards and seven assists in the win.
The Eutectics (5-4, 0-3 AMC) are back at it again on Saturday when Hannibal-LaGrange (4-6, 1-2 AMC) comes to town for a 3:00pm start. Missouri Baptist then makes the short trip to the UHSP Gymnasium next Thursday before the Eutectics head out for their first road game in three weeks on Saturday, December 14 at Williams Baptist. UHSP will have two non-conference games and an exhibition before the calendar turns to 2025 as they host Bethel (TN) and then visit Indiana East and Indiana State.
